Summary: After getting dumped by his nineteenth girlfriend, named Katherine just like his previous girlfriends, Colin goes on a road trip with his friend. They stop in a town named Gutshot where they meet a girl named Lindsay, whose mom then offers them a job for the summer. Far away from home, Colin tries to perfect a formula that he thinks will be able to predict the outcome of future relationships while navigating life and his new job in Gutshot.

I have read this novel before but I decided to reread it because it had been some time since I last read it. I definitely enjoyed reading it a second time. All of the jokes and interactions between the characters were really well written and I appreciated that the math that was shared with Colin’s formula didn’t impact my understanding of the story and was well explained. The descriptions that were in the novel were really great and I could visualize the scenarios well. In general, I enjoyed this novel and I think that I would read it again.

Adaptation (Adaptation, #1) by Malinda Lo

Summary: On June 19th, birds start hurling themselves into airplanes, causing chaos all across North America. Reese and her debate team partner are forced to drive home because planes were grounded and get into a crash because of a bird. A month later, they wake up in a strange place and are told they underwent a medical procedure to save them. They return home but they both know that they are now different in some way. At home, they are faced with strange occurrences, conspiracy theories, and Reese runs into a beautiful girl who seems wonderful. But things are no longer as they seem.

Right from the start of the novel, I was interested to know what would happen next. Not only did it capture my attention at the beginning, it also held my attention throughout the whole story. There was some romance but it didn’t interfere with the events of the story. Instead, it added humanity to the characters and, in my opinion, made the main character more relatable because of the confusion and other emotions she felt. I’m definitely interested in reading the next book because I enjoyed this novel and I’m curious to see what happens next.

Reading Habits

828 pages/17 days = 49 pages/day

I think the fact that it is the end of the school year has caused me to focus on things other than reading and generally left me fairly unmotivated. I did keep reading, which is good, although I do feel that I could have read more. Over the summer, I definitely want to continue reading, which I don’t think will be a problem because I enjoy reading. I also want to try to read some novels in genres that I don’t usually read, specifically poetry as well as some classic novels.
